2027 KTM 250 SX - ORANGE

The 2027 KTM 250 SX in ORANGE is a focused 249 cm³, single-cylinder 2-stroke motocross machine built around KTM’s latest SX chassis updates and modern EFI rideability. Keihin EFI with a 39 mm throttle body works with a power valve and Vitesco Technologies EMS to deliver smoother, more usable power through the rev range, backed by a 5-speed transmission and a wet DDS multi-disc clutch with Brembo hydraulics. WP XACT suspension at both ends, disc brakes, and a Central double-cradle-type 25CrMo4 steel frame round out a package aimed at riders who want precise feel, easy adjustability, and race-ready control.

EFI-enhanced 2-stroke drive

A 249 cm³ 1-cylinder 2-stroke engine pairs Keihin Electronic Fuel Injection (39 mm throttle body) with a power valve for more usable power across the rev range. KTM emphasizes smoother power for better traction, and the Vitesco Technologies EMS supports consistent running across conditions. A 5-speed transmission and a wet DDS multi-disc clutch with Brembo hydraulics complete the drivetrain for responsive, controlled starts and exits.

WP XACT AER + linkage rear

WP XACT-USD (AER) 48 mm forks and a WP XACT Monoshock with linkage are matched to the SX chassis for a controlled feel through braking bumps, ruts, and landings. Both ends offer tuneability, with the fork featuring compression (high and low speed) plus rebound adjustment, and the rear shock providing compression and rebound adjustment. With 310 mm front travel and 300 mm rear travel, the suspension package is built to handle hard laps.

Chassis tuned for feedback

KTM’s revised frame updates focus on targeted chassis flex and rider feedback, with changes around the rear shock mount area and optimized engine mounts and cut-outs. The Central double-cradle-type 25CrMo4 steel frame works with an aluminum-reinforced polyamide subframe, and KTM also calls out improved wiring-harness routing and fixing points aimed at reducing wear. Ground clearance is listed at 354 mm for track conditions that get deep and rough.

Engine, fueling, and map selection

The 2027 250 SX uses a 249 cm³ single-cylinder, 2-stroke design with Keihin EFI (39 mm throttle body) and Vitesco Technologies EMS. KTM pairs EFI with a power valve to broaden usability through the rev range, with the goal of smoother delivery and improved traction when the track gets slick or choppy.

For riders who like to tailor character to conditions, KTM includes a map select switch with two engine maps. Map 1 is described as linear and predictable, while Map 2 is tuned for crisp, explosive output. Power is managed through a 5-speed transmission, and the wet DDS multi-disc clutch uses Brembo hydraulics for consistent lever feel under race intensity.

Suspension setup without the hassle

WP XACT components anchor the suspension package: a 48 mm WP XACT-USD (AER) fork up front and a WP XACT rear shock with linkage. KTM highlights tool-free setup at both ends, including hand-adjustable clickers for fork compression and rebound, and a hand-adjustable dual compression option at the rear to quickly change high- and low-speed settings.

The fork’s AER design is described with a capsulated air spring and pressurized oil chamber to promote progressive, consistent damping, while oil and air bypasses help reduce pressure peaks. KTM also notes a single air pressure pre-load valve, and the WP air pump needed for adjustment is provided as standard in the buy-pack. Suspension travel is listed at 310 mm front and 300 mm rear.

Frame, ergonomics, and durability-minded details

KTM’s hydro-formed, laser-cut, robot-welded frame is engineered around calculated longitudinal and torsional flex, intended to provide rider feedback and straight-line stability while helping reduce harshness over many laps. The frame design is a Central double-cradle-type 25CrMo4 steel structure, paired with an aluminum-reinforced polyamide rear subframe.

For rider movement, KTM points to an updated rider triangle and tank shrouds using bi-compound plastics, along with a concise fuel tank roll designed for a tighter fitment and improved durability. The fuel tank capacity is listed as 7.2 l (approx.). KTM also calls out a durable chain guide and chain guard to help reduce hooking on external objects and reduce dirt build-up, and notes modified fixing points and wiring harness routing intended to be less prone to wear and damage.

Braking, tires, and key dimensions

Braking is handled by disc brakes front and rear, and KTM adds a special rear brake pedal for increased stiffness, bending resistance, and braking feel. Up front, KTM notes a forged steering head connection and CNC-milled triple clamps intended to keep fork alignment precise for responsive action and stability in ruts.

The motocross range is equipped with Dunlop GEOMAX MX34 tires, described by KTM as developed for stability and control with a rigid carcass and compound aimed at improved damping and absorption. Dimensions include a 958 mm seat height, 354 mm ground clearance, and a listed weight (without fuel) of 99.4 kg.
